Album Review

Psych folk, avant garde. Male vocals strongly reminiscent of the Beta Band. Yet another artist being compared to Animal Collective. Is this just quirky musical posturing, or does the comparison stick? Luc has definite similarities to AC on several tracks (2,3,8,9): dense musical soundscapes, freaky vocal rhythms, and layered beats so intricate you’ll lose your mind if you try to follow just one. But there is also a very folky (think John Fahey) and sometimes jazzy feel to this album, with a banjo and accordion providing a musical base for several tracks. Overall, great music to get lost in (even if Luc sometimes seems to lose his way before you can). FCC clean. Picks: 2,3,6 - Matt L.

1: (2:06) Simple song with banjos, hand clapping, and AC-like vocal ramblings.
**2: (6:18) Pretty guitar, strings, & banjo. Male vocals. Mellow & dreamy. Standout!
*3: (4:04) Instrumental with fast woodblock beat and guitar. Upbeat yet dreamy.
4: (2:27) Acoustic guitar, accordion, slow tempo. Vocals ebb and flow with accordion.
5: (3:46) Minor-sounding guitar, accordion. Beta band vocals. Looped piano tinklings. Fades out 2 min into the song and then comes back in quietly.
*6: (1:23) Folky guitar. Americana style. Featuring vocals by Sarah Winchester.
7: (2:25) Fingerpicked guitar and banjo. Medium tempo. Nice.
8: (4:01) Static vocals lead into guitar and arrhythmic symbols and drums. AC-like freak-vocal rhythms.
9: (1:43) Banjo, AC vocals, handclap rhythms, crashing cymbals.
10: (2:01) Stripped down. Guitar and vocals. Hymnal feel.
11: (4:29) Instrumental. Upbeat tribal drumming.
12: (4:08) Somber piano and vocals. Accordion. Meanders. Slow fade out.
13: (2:10) Same structure as track 1 (I prefer track 1). Slow fade out.
