Guitar-led modern jazz: Fun, playful stuff with an angular sense of funk. The tuba and occasional clarinet suggest New Orleans styles, but the quirky composing falls more in the camp of modern bop. And the guitar solos frequently dig into some sleeves-rolled-up blues/rock. Not too cerebral, should be accessible to most ears. A good time.

For a similar treat, in terms of tuba and new uses of funky rhythms, check out Henry Threadgill's stuff -- it gets more "out there" but it's all in fun.

- Jumbly, upbeat, fun. Fast, swirly w/organ
- N'Orleans crawl, slowish
- Chipper stumbling bouncy theme, into open-space sax soloing and bluesy guitar segment
- Propulsive bop feel. Quick burbly guitar, after a gradual start
- Floaty, pretty, shimmery. Fairly slow, a bit new agey.
- Slowish but playful. Ethereal weird/fusion guitar solo.
- Wandering, searching feel. Midtempo with lingering chords
- Mysterious, playful/spooky bounce. Surprisingly, it turns out to be a slow R&B piece with some catchy changes.
- Strange and abstract improv
- Bluesy walk with Monk-like twistiness. Mid/fast.
