The Bawd Of Euphony
Reviewed 2006-06-12
I can’t stop listening to this record. HELP!!! Imagine this, Alex Minoff (The Make-Up, Scene Creamers, Weird War) goes to Nairobi with his buddy Ian Eagleson (Golden) and meets up with Benga Guitarist Otieno Jagwasi & Percussionist Onyango Wuod Omari, both from the Kenya band Orchestra Solar Africa and proceed to create an infectious record combining the Kenyan benga guitar style with the westerners Boogie rock! Fuck this is just sooo good all the way around, soulful Alex-tilted R&B ballads packed along side of ripping African guitar playing. To add to the mystique the record was recorded on a portable studio at various nightclubs in Nairobi. This is beautiful, soulful, masterful and completely original. PLAY!!!!

1**(11:07) Slow swinging infectious benga guitar with a twist. Great great feel!
2**(7:11) Slow Minoff ballad, more western sounding. soulful with touches of African guitar.
3**(6:22) **Standout! Funky funky guitar playing, afican singing and great syncopated guitar.
4**(6:14) Upbeat popy number. Great minor twist at end. Love it!
5*(7:05) Mellow weird War sounding tune. Very low key and straight.
6**(12:09) Long and slow ballad that picks up at the end. Enchanting and tropical. Awesome
