The Bawd Of Euphony Reviewed 2006-06-12 | ||
Yes! Another amazing release from Karl Blau’s (The Microphones, Laura Viers, Joanna Kunin) Kelp monthly series! Written and recorded on Quatro-Synco 4-track in 1999 in Anacortes, "Bread-n-Grease" was Karl’s last Knw-Yr-Own tape release(about 50 copies spread). Raw pop and lo-fi beauty with inventiveness always just around the corner, bread n grease is a secret gem. Lots of songy songys mixed with tilted R&B and even some dub-like jams, This release showcases the unashamed child-creative force that Karl refuse to let go of. The man can’t do no wrong!-tHE bAWD oF euphony 1*(1:27) an overture of outtakes from the record. Pretty cool 2**(3:22) Upbeat African guitar feel, awesome ending, great song. 3**(4:02) Slightly off vocals and slow drop beat. Great guitar sections, loose and odd 4**(1:41) Lo-fi R&B tune. Funkadelic on 4track! Get funky! 5**(1:49) Very Paul Simon, odd and upbeat. Breaks into Eastern euro stomp! OIY! 6*(3:52) Dark drone, fuzzy sparkly weirdness. Very Ariel Pink 7**(2:09) Hip hop? No, bizarre vox and repeated bass. Drum breakdown. 8**(7:38) Cool swirly vox loop, loose drums and bass. Completely twisted. Love it 9**(1:37) Gospel! All vox. Cool! 10**(2:43) Bells and drums, distant room singing. Blau horns, love it! 11**(2:36) Lo-fi jazz swinging, organ drums and falsetto. Turns tribal, fucking weird! 12**(1:29) Drumming madness into loopy electronics. bizzare 13*(0:25) quick weird ditty 14**(1:17) Beckish dark country, megaphone singing weirdness. Sergio Leon on DMT 15**(5:33) Drop Beat, great horns and bass. Strange asian dialect speaking in the background. + Secret track… |
