[coll]: Baila: A Latin Dance Party (Putamayo) Reviewed by Sadie O., 5/25/06 Latin dance music (they ain’t kidding!) – mostly Cuban-influenced but from around the world. Everyone loves Latin dance music! Ain’t nothing that’s not to love on here. Play it on up! 1. **uptempo cha cha bounce with piano and a bit of electronica, Cuban/French artist 2. ***midtempo Afro-Cuban hip-wiggler with sweet Guinean lead vocals. 3. **very relaxed and lovely boogaloo by a roots-oriented Columbian group. Sweet! 4. **midtempo boogaloo about Santeria (in English) by Puerto Rican/Belgian artist, a bit of electronica and bells. 5. **pretty midtempo cha cha from a NY salsa orchestra. Serious piano solo! 6. **midtempo Swedish salsa – don’t laugh, it sizzles! 7. ***slightly uptempo Congolese fusion salsa/soukouss. 8. **midtempo, energetic reggae/salsa from Argentinians in LA. 9. **midtempo, Cuban band celebrating their new style – timba. 10. ***downtempo cumbia-funk from NY – BIG sound. 11. ***slightly downtempo mambo with dancehall toasting. | ||
