Highly syncopated Latin dance music, which fills the function of the Blues in the Dominican Republic. It’s all terribly pretty, with most of the instrumentation handled by a picked high-pitched guitar and some hand percussion, with almost universally bittersweet male tenor vocals, so the tracks here tend to be very similar in sound.
No FCCs that I know of (all in Spanish).
All tracks good; I probably like 8 and 9 and maybe 13 best, but they’re really all quite similar to a non-Bachata-expert…
1. Sweet and bouncy midtempo by the “King of Bachata”, female chorus.
2. Uptempo with prominent guitar, pleasant tenor vocals.
3. Midtempo, sparce but with sharply picked guitar, bittersweet male vocals.
4. Highly emotional vocals, midtempo dance-y groove.
5. A bit relaxed in tone, with very romantic, almost whispered vocals.
6. Downtempo, nice dance beat.
7. Slightly relaxed, slightly husky tenor vocals.
8. Midtempo but rather upbeat, nice groove, slightly Afro-Caribbean-influenced vocals.
9. Electric guitar, and an almost rock-steady-ish beat, vocal melodies a bit like Mariachi.
10. Nice midtempo beat, rather generic sounding vocals.
11. Midtempo male/female duet, very pop, more complex and slick production than earlier tracks on the CD.
12. Midtempo, another track from the slightly husky tenor.
13. Midtempo, rather deeper vocals than other cuts (a BARITONE!)
14. Midtempo, slightly upbeat, rather odd tenor vocals.
