The Dirty Projectors "New Attitude" – Whoa. Folk, electronic, classical, craziness, and some other stuff thrown in there too. This is really hard to describe. One thing remains constant in all songs, they are totally fucked up in one way or another. This is a good thing. Some songs have elements of folk and almost bluegrass along with weird electronic sounds. Some songs use full string sections and others have an almost Afrobeat sound. There is some serious vocal acrobatics going on using layering of droning screams and percussive vocals as well as lead vocals that range from falsetto to yelling to soft intimate vocals. It makes the songs fresh and exciting because it goes places you don't really expect. The whole album was a lot of fun. If you're looking for something different give it a try. FCC: 1
My Picks: 2, 5, 6

1)Starts with droning yells interspersed with guitars and claps. Pretty minimal yet layered. Male vocals with soul styling come in along with some percussive vocals in the background. Slow midtempo. Fcc: says “fucked”
2)Guitars and bloopy electronic sounds. Hand-claps add percussion. Guitar has a definite folk sound along with the odd bluegrass-like male vocals. It's kind of droning and also totally fucked up at the same time. Tempo ranges from slower to fast midtempo.
3)Two different guitar/banjo sounds going on and then heavy bass hits. Falsetto male vocals. Plenty of electronics bleeping and blooping.
4)Droning strings fade in and out several times. About halfway through male vocals come in. The layering or processing of the vocals is really creepy.
5)Background talking and then it comes in with a cute electronic organ/keyboard, bass, and percussion. Flute is added along with drums. Later male vocals come in yelling/singing and vocals are way overblown. Something about this reminds me of Afrobeat. Perhaps it's the hypnotic beat and play between vocalists.
6)Strings fade in and male vocals enter. The vocal acrobatics are really cool and fit well with the heavy strings. Wow.
7)Acoutics guitar and one an a wah-wah pedal. Soft male vocals that have some more vocal acrobatics and layers at times. Then the song changes completely with heavy electronic bass tones which go into faster electronic blips and then this weird '80s sounding casio-style song with female vocals happens. Reminds me of Gloria Estefan or something. Oh this is weird!
