Classical soloists from the l’Adami label. Very solid performances of mostly early 20th c /late 19th c music (older music on tracks 2, 3, and 9). Virtuosic, lively, and with depth. This CD is a great start to hearing any of these composers, though I know nothing about the performers. All accompanied by piano (with one piano solo track). Live recordings, with clapping on the end of the tracks. Favs 1, 3, 4, 6. FCC clean.

*1. Violin sonata. Fast-ish. Spanish/tango-ish, virtuosic. Manuel de Falla has some great pieces though I’m still trying to find good recordings of them.
2. Piano solo. Schubert piece arranged by Liszt and further by 20th century pianist Horowitz? Bass-y, heavy romantic music which eventually gives way to lighter/playful music. Very clear articulation – reminds me of the pianist Krystian Zimmerman.
*3. Mozart aria from Cosi fan tutte. Beautiful, subtle and solid performance.
*4. Ooh, Poulenc clarinet sonata, movements 2 and 3. Starts slow, minor, bluesy. There’s clapping after this movement, in the middle of the track… then the fast, dissonant galloping last mvt. Poulenc wrote a fabulous wind sextet if you want to check him out more, also some funky cabaret songs.
5. Plaintive/mournful violin and piano. Very slow, romantic style. Ends early with silence before clapping. Try Bloch’s late works for atonal-leaning music.
*6. Fast urgent trumpet sonata. Awesome staccato-ing.
7. Mezzo soprano solo. Slow and bluesy, cool piano chords. If you like Massenet’s songs try these other French guys: Gabriel Faure, Henri Duparc, Debussy, Ravel, Poulenc, and Leo Delibes.
8. Funny song. Baritone solo line versus busy piano.
9. Warbly soprano aria from a Donizetti opera. Very clear and strong voice.
