Sadie O. Reviewed 2006-08-24 | ||
Fiamma Fumana – Onda Reviewed by Sadie O., 8/24/06 Italian chick-rock, with lots of guy friends (even a choir), and prominent accordion and bagpipes. Definite folk influence, but also good electronic beats. The combination works well – it’s very pleasant to listen to. Nothing challenging or terribly experimental, but a pretty unique sound. No FCCs detected. I like track 2 and the remix (12) best. 1. 3:52 **midtempo, mellow (almost folky) dance groove, female vocals and lots of hip hop guy vocals in Jamaican-accented English and Italian (and Spanish, I think). 2. 3:54 ***snaky midtempo electronic dance groove with lots of accordion and bagipes, female singing. 3. 4:12 **funky semi-acoustic bounce with choral vocals. 4. 3:17 **sweet downbeat acoustic groove with marimba and bagpipes. 5. 3:41 *slow, starts with female speaking Italian, then piano and singing, very dramatic. 6. 4:33 **choral opening, then midtempo bass and bagpipes (nice combo, BTW). 7. 3:26 *midtempo folk, mellow, 8. 4:12 *slow, starts with rather anthemic accordion and vocals, then cool beat and a bit of male speaking. 9. 4:15 *midtempo, downbeat and relaxed bagpipes, beats and singing. 10. 3:51 *starts with talking, then midtempo beats and very folky accordion. Choir through most of song. 11. 3:09 *spoken male intro in English, about Scottish music… then very bouncy polka with accordion, bagpipes, and beats, samples. 12. 6:06 ****Transglobal Underground remix of track 2. Great beats. Repeated vocal chorus becomes part of the percussion. Bit of Bhangra beat halfway through – cool! |
