Putumayo, 2006

The title says it all: a sampling of contemporary singer-songwriters from across the continent. Another good Putumayo compilation…

Fo’s Picks: 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 11, 12

1. 3:56 – relaxed and pleasant, rolling w/nice male vox, but cheesy keyboard
2. 3:42 – lovely fem vox over harp & kora, a song of empowerment
3. 3:05 – infectious medium tempo, gruff male vox, rolling valiha harp groove
4. 2:59 – appealing midtempo bounce, fem vox & chorus: about body image
5. 3:15 – gently rocking guitar rhythm, very sweet male vox, made me smile
6. 3:38 – delicate duet vox over churning Latin guitar rhythm, gains strength
7. 3:13 – relaxed, plodding beat, male vox & blues tinge: a plea for peace
8. 4:39 – upbeat: driving, layered sound and solid fem vox. Very nice!
9. 5:03 – gentle pop ballad, sweet male vox, tight band, lots of production
10. 3:36 – relaxed, coffeehouse folk sound, nice fem vox, lilting guitars
11. 4:19 – very nice guitar pattern, throaty male vox + large chorus
12. 3:45 – great guitar work w/ a Spanish-Cuban flair + group vocals
