Better Off La Peste

LA PESTE – “Better Off La Pest” CD (Dionysus)
Post punk, art punk, and punk from Boston and the late 70s. Catchy with arty moments, gothy moments, glammy moments (those guitar solos), and dumb moments. At times they remind me of THE JAM and at others the ANGRY SAMOANS. They must have the stupid lyrics on purpose?
**1. Their hit and damn catchy with more of a hard rock guitar riff. “That girls only 13, she ain’t never given head”.
2. Slower with spoken vocals.
3. Ugh.
4. RAMONES light with silly lyrics.
5. Slightly heavier and fuzzier. 6. Simple, medium pace and guitar solo.
7. Trying to sound tough and it comes across somewhat laughable.
**8. The music reminds me of WIRE. Mechanical drums and slightly fuzzy guitar.
**9. More aggressive and another one that reminds me of the ANGRY SAMOANS. “Just got back from Vietnam, just trying to pay my rent”.
10. Minimal sound with guitars in the background.
11. Slightly darker but still poppy and repetitive.
12. Punk and again reminds me a little of ANGRY SAMOANS but the chorus wimps out.
13. Vague surf/spy sound. Dumb in a fun way.
14. Vocals up front with effects on them and fuzzy guitar.
15. Live and where are the guitars?
16. Faster, repetitive and more punk sounding.
17. Slow, simple and silly. “Betty’s so dumb she don’t know”.
18. Sounds like a bad punk band playing an ANIMALS song or something.
**19. Louder, fuzzier guitar. “all my kindness invites abuse.” Guitar solo.
20. Energetic and a bit silly live track.
21. Diving, more aggressive track. Funny backing vocals.
22. Mellow track with clean guitar and prominent bass.
23. Louder live track, punk love song.
24. Odd simple live pop song.
25. ick.
