EMAHOY TSEGUE-MARYAM GUEBROU - "Ethiopiques 21 - Piano Solo" CD (Buda Musique)
Solo piano from Ethiopian piano player and composer. It's mostly jazz and blues but all with a thin veil of classical music. It's very personal and meditative (not new age) and sounds like someone sitting in their living room playing the piano for themselves. She has a few tricks (riffs? runs?) and a style that she uses on almost every track and in the end a lot of the tracks sound the same. Most of the tracks are around the same speed, same feel, and same style. Most of these tracks were recorded in the 60s. Some of the tracks, 13 onward have a different tone because of what sounds like a different piano recorded in a different environment. The first 9 tracks come from two LPs released in Germany in the 60s. Try pretty much any track, they really are all very similar.
I liked 1, 5, 6 (lyrical), 9, 13, 14, 16 (slight gospel sound)
OK stuff -mph
