Album Review

Groove-laden hip-hop from Australia with a pretty original lyrical flow. Lots of innovation and creative sampling/beats and much more. Lyrics ranging from fun to person to political.

((((1)))) Sounds rather close to House of Pain’s “Jump Around” but less annoying. Nice unpredictable shifts from MCing to sampling.
(((((2))))) Excellent, albeit more of a ‘singing’ type of flavor. Really fun lyrics and great verses from MC August 2.
((((3)))) Really tight loops of horn samples and killer beats. Some silly MCing & movie samples but it works. Props for using the word “bifurcate” in a hip-hop track.
(((4))) (FCC “shitty” said once) Bouncy beats, OK flow with some electronic classic loops (Tomita?)
((((5)))) Nice jagged beat structure that MCs over opera, Asian string loops and harmonica.
((6)) One of those “better on paper than it’s actually performed”. Mixes every element at the same level. Total confusion. (Regarless of the spot-on politics).
((((7)))) Short psychedelic based MCing what I think is a Eastern European language (Macedonian?)
((((8)))) Multi-lingual (English, Chinese & Macedonian) MCing with loose beats, lots of nice shifts in mic & language styles.
((((9)))) Wild loops of strings and Arabic-style percussion, really catchy yet oft-kilter & every changing, too. Some good lyrics about racial identity.
((((10)))) “Carnival meets ethereal Eastern Europe” feeling. Lots of accordian and nice ‘airy’ female vocals.
((((11)))) Deformed Hall & Oates loops (gotta be “Makin’ My Dreams Come True”) with lots of 70’s influenced beats & breaks.
(((12))) Sing-songy, scattered pop-hop. Meh, not bad but…
(13) Random interlude
(((14))) (FCC “fuckin pain” said twice in intro) Crazy 60’s “beat rock” loops, awesome beats, uppity, punkish MCing but a tad too mix up for it’s own good. Whoa it’s a Bill Hicks sample! FCC “Fucking”)
(((15))) Skitso mix of diggerdoos, Indnoesian style percussion and random other bits. Some pretty decent MCing.
(((16))) Greek spoken word, then crazy-fast Balkan music horns & English MCing. Lyrics take on A LOT of Balkan history thus making it confusing to latch onto at first but generally worth your time.
((((17)))) Acoustic string interlude from Indonesia? Macedonia? Wherever it’s from it sounds REALLY cool.
