Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend
Reviewed 2006-11-06
Heavy deep space drums/downtuned guitar meanderings, loud and dissonant, drony at times, intense at others. For fans of Sunn ((O))), early Swans, Sprawl, Kaspar Broztman, Earth. Metal-heads will recognize Plotkin from his work with Old, and early grind bands. These days he does stuff with Southern Lord records (see Khanate, et al). He’s kind of the wise-man-on-the-mountain of heavy narcotic music. See also his early heavy drone project Lull.

1) starts with intense wall of sound type drumming, noise guitar, breaks down but builds back up
2) sparser more dissonant meanderings
3) long hypnotic, looping industrial sparse heavy guitar and drum rumblings, soundtrack to an iron foundry on a distant planet moon in a nihilistic sci fi movie, ends up crazy and insane
4) slow to develop, down-and-out tuned guitar, drums eventually appear but remain sparse, spastic
5) downtuned guitar is more spastic, still, glacially slow to go anywhere, but when it does it really freaks
6) quiet, almost chill ambient guitar
7) guitar heavy, more layered and chordal, still slow and more chill
8) heavy, with feedbacky drone, rumbling drums, hypnotic
