Delicious blend of jazz & Balkan folk, very well done. She’s got a gorgeous, moving, unbelievably deep voice (you’ll think it’s a man), and style for days. The band is tight, talented, and playful. “Sevdah” is sort of the Bosnian equivalent of Fado, so many tracks are slow and sad. But all are so good. Play it all! 1. Slow, romantic, tragic. Great vocals & guitar. 2. Highly jazzy relaxed ballad w/great vocals. 3. Upbeat, driving folk/gypsy jazz jam. Wonderful! 4. Starts slow, picks up a bit. A lyrical love song. 5. Solo piano intro, changes a bit, mostly slow & heartbreaking. 6. Rather wacky trad folk song w/an updated, percussive sound. 7. Starts w/Klexmer-esque flourish, turns into slow jazzy ballad. 8. Slow clarinet/guitar intro into playful, upbeat folk song. Yay! 9. Slow intro, then tripping, midtempo. Male vocals. Sweet. 10. Lazy, relaxed & flowing w/good use of accordion. 11. Perc, twisting violin, downtempo folk love song. 12. Slow, sad, spare. Lovely melody, full of tragedy. |
