Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend

Experimental noise that utilizes only sounds and snips taken from radio, looped, layered, music and voices that are all unfamiliar. This is NOT “sample art”, i.e. there is no kitschy or quirky plays on the familiar, these are compositions. Very cool stuff, comes across well. This formula (TV, Radio collage) has been done before, admittedly, however Catera really takes it to a new level and its anything but sophomoric. Really interesting, developed stuff that takes on personality. Fans of early “electronic music” (Cage, Reich), Eno-Byrne “Bush of Ghosts” take note.

1) heavy collage, dense
2) has some interesting voices, is creepy, less random collage, longer though, hypnotic in places
3) this one is very “radio-like”: voices, clearly a radio call-in show getting hashed, echoey, trippy
4) clear reports from Iraq coming through, sample-art’ish, loopness gives this an almost electro-dance feel in places
5) some high pitched tones that might irritate
