Samson – Let My People Dance

“Jawaiian” ragga/dancehall/reggae by a Samoan artist. Frankly, most of the record is much too slick and commercially produced for my taste, but there are a few good bits of big Polynesian beats mixed with dancehall, so I’m throwing it in to see how it swims…
No FCCs detected. I think 1, 6 and 8 are best – I have a strong aversion to track 10 but it should be played on Lift Jesus Higher…
1. 3:41 ***big Samoan drums with electric guitar and electronica, midtempo dancehall groove, upbeat lyrics. Would have been better without the occasional synthesized strings IMO. Interlude in middle of song that reminds me of 80’s pop.
2. 4:38 *pretty female vocal intro, then relaxed midtempo reggae beat. Love song rap. Final version of track 11, which was Samson’s wedding processional. Awww!
3. 3:17 *midtempo, relaxed reggae beat, very polished pop sound
4. 3:28 **upbeat midtempo ragga beat. Again, very polished pop sound. The male and female vocals work well together here. Lyrics praising the ‘hood.
5. 4:08 *midtempo, relaxed, sweet lover’s rock
6. 3:15 ***midtempo ragga beat, production sounds like a movie soundtrack, Poly pride lyrics. Some hard rock, almost metal.
7. 3:25 *relaxed reggae riddim, male and female lead vocals.
8. 2:58 ***big Poly ragga riddim, rather cinematic dramatic sound, bragging lyrics.
9. 4:16 *ukulele intro, slow pop groove, Poly strength lyrics.
10. 3:20 vocal and chorus, slow religious number – Hawaiian Christian churchical number
11. 3:21 *relaxed downtempo verson of track 2, lots of synth, pretty love song.
