[coll]: Globalista Radio – Sensual Sonores Reviewed by Sadie O., 2/23/07 Stars of the NYC “Ethno Dance/Lounge Culture” make mostly relaxed electronic grooves drawing influences from a huge range of world music. No liner notes, so you have to get all your info from the promo sheet. No FCCs – almost nothing in English. Lots of great stuff here. 1. **All vocals, alternating and blending Punjabi/Bhangra chanting, female “R&B” in English and Hindi, even a bit of Sufi. 2. ***mutated orchestral intro, female vocals in what sounds like Brazilian Portuguese, relaxed midtempo electronic dance groove with a Latin bounce. GREAT bass bit in the middle. 3. ***Gnawa clackers, echo-y and ethereal intermixed female vocals, electronics. Finally very downtempo simple beat, “tribal” chanting. Relaxed and trance-inducing. 4. ****Spanish guitar, layers of gypsy-ish instruments and electronics, midtempo relaxed dance/lounge beat. Lots of fun, and fucks with your head, in the nicest possible way. 5. Harp strums and oh-so-pretty female vocals in French. Gives me hives and makes me want to skin puppies alive, but I bet a lotta y’all will love it. Downtempo relaxed electronic lounge beat around 2 minutes in. Back to strums for last minute. 6. ***squeezebox intro, then uptempo ooom-pah (I honestly don’t know what you’d call this!) Some nice drum and bass. Gets manic for last couple of minutes. Apparently these guys are Japanese. 7. ****sweet Spanish guitar, intro, hand drums and a bit of electronics. Midtempo relaxed dance beat, very easy on the ears. Hey, who invited the sitars? Male speaking in Arabic. Globalista is right! 8. ***swingy African-sounding drums, female vocals, also lots of electronics and a somewhat uptempo shuffling beat. Whatever this girl is singing about, she’s SERIOUS. 9. **instrumental version of track 8, very lush and trance-y but with a cool beat. Some pretty amazing noises. OK, to be honest, the violins scare the pants off me, and I’m scared they’ll do bad things if I don’t say nice things about them… 10. ****BIG electronics and slow pots-n-pans march of the zombies groove, with male chorus in some West African language. Stops and gets even electronikier midway through. Gnarly! 11. **sitar, tabla, relaxed yet bouncy midtempo groove. Rooted in Indian classical music, but with a bit of electronic funk. 20 seconds silence at end. 12. *****way funky uptempo instrumental, electronic squeaps, talking drum, marimba. Fun and funky! | ||
