Take World Pop artists and let them do Pop/Rock classics and this is what you get. Lots of coolness, with an overall funky feel, and fun listening. There is some innovation too, and also admirable attempts (e.g. Pink Floyd’s Echoes done by Banco de Gaia). I am sure you will play it. FCC free. 1. Upbeat dubby version (with Indian percussion) of Police’s Spirits in the material world. Male voices. 2. A 70’s funky retro rendition of Herbie Hancock’s 80’s instrumental hit. *3. A cool electrofunk take on the “Get Carter” theme (a brit 70’s action movie starring M. Caine). Mix Get Carter, Madonna’s ray of light, Vangelis and Shaft. 4. An atmopheric, slightly gothic, female vox version of Cure’s Love song. *5. A Pink Floydish rendition of a Jimi Hendreix’s song. Male vox. **6. A beautiful epic version of Led Zeppelin’s Four Stick. A movie sensibility. **7. Flamenpop version of Marley’s Get up stand up. *8. Another Police hit. This time done latin Raggae. Fun track. **9. A retro cool Europop take (with a gravely male vox) on a ABBA hit. 10. A Bosa Nova rendition of a Carpenters’s hit. Female vox. Slow and moody. *11. Pink’s Floyd’s Echoes. Shortened from the original 23 min. to 8 and using gently distorted male vox. I didn’t dig it that much, but it’s worth listening. *12. Gentle shimmering electronica. Beatles’ Julia. Vibraphone and Chariots of fire percussion. Nice improvisation using Indian modes. |
