Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend
Reviewed 2007-04-19
Avante classical if not experimental (I’m keying this as Classical if only in hopes that this mirrors the future of the genre). Traditional instruments, woodwinds, bowed cymbals, bass, flutes, etc all played quite non-traditionally. Very advanced stuff, worthy of our Stanford listeners. Please listen to this even if you don’t play it on the air. Your body soul and intellect would like this nutrient.

1) melodic and musical, soundtrackish, woodwind centered and pensive
2) experimental feel, though avante, tense
3) more collage-like, takes a melodic turn, slow walk through a sad viola and pestering flutes
4) dissonant start, lots of strings, beautiful stuff in its dischord and pure spontaneity
5) a lovely drone serves as sound bed to treated horns, woodwinds
6) feel of composition, pensive and complex melody, less improv yet still organic
7) minimal, bowed dark melodies and creepy layering, long and inspiring, cinematic in a Hitchcock way, goes through many changes in its 25 minutes
