Album Review
The Byrd of Paradise
Reviewed 2007-06-19
Queen of church/blues. Smoky vocals, "real" vocals (not stories). The last member of the Staple Singers still performing. Serious production, solid band & material.

1. Lowdown bounce - comment on racism
2. Moanin' strings & vocals on 2nd line
3. Oldtime classic church anthem from the Civil Rights era
4. Classic call and response - swampy
5. Laidback percussion march on Civil Rights chant
6. Lowdown/rock-ified version of old churchy kids song
7. Tight, tuff Civil Rights march
8. Soulful midtempo - story of her experience in the Nivil Rights and now, from laidback to a slow build up -- powerful
9. Updated version of Civil Rights anthem
10. Slow, smoky ballad
11. Easy strollin' churchy anthem
