SAVIOURS - "Crucifire" CD (Level Plane)
Heavy riff centric rock with major influences from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, which happened in the mid to late 70s. These might just be some of the best hard rock and metal riffs I've heard in a while. Think bands like THE FUCKING CHAMPS, THIN LIZZY, VENOM, and even MASTODON. The band is from the bay area and contains ex-members of YAPHET KOTTO and DRUNK HORSE. Great headbanging metal. I heard the band had three guitar players but I rarely hear three, but often hear two playing twin harmonizing leads like a lot of NWOBHM bands did.
**1. Opens with some sound, voices? siren? then kicks into a simple pummeling riff. Nice headbanger.
**2. Repetitive to begin but this is a setup before the song submits you to one of the best metal guitar riffs I've heard in a years. Messy guitar solo.
3. Hard rock that reminds me of DIRTY POWER. The end of the track has more metal riffs and is a bit more complicated.
**4. Heavier sounding with a slight gallop. Nice twin harmonizing guitar riff in the middle of the track. I hear THE FUCKING CHAMPS in some of the guitar playing and tone.
5. Prominent and fast bass. 70s hard rock solo and guitar tone. 6. Another track with lots of bass. Nice twin guitar playing again. Slower track. Slight IRON MAIDEN sound at the end.
7. Slower track.
**8. Another track that reminds me a bit of THE FUCKING CHAMPS. Lots of twin guitar and then it changes to a fast simple riff. IRON MAIDEN-like guitar interlude in the middle. Longest track and does start to fade out with a minute left. Near silent with 40 seconds left.
Great stuff! -mph
