Devon Townsend of Strapping Young Lad cranking out a bunch bombastic, histronic sci-fi metal and bits of prog rock. Excellent stuff and thoroughly enjoyable. The concept is about a space alien who seeks the universe’s ultimate cup of black coffee. Or. Something. Like. That.
((((1)))) Big, histronic riffage with a funny skit introducing “Ziltoid”.
((((2)))) Awesome intro with plenty of riffage and Townsend’s typically solid blend of clean classic vocals, aggressive/extreme tones and more character development.
((((3)))) Heavy and aggressive riffing, silly keyboard parts, very 80’s high vocal parts. Oddly sounds like a metal version of Foetus.
(((4))) Taking the piss out of “concept metal” like Rhapsody with a silly story & a slow ballady epic eventually builds to a proper metal song.
(((((5))))) Odd-metred, modern sound with poppy overtones like eh…Swervedriver & Foo Fighters crossed with Voi Vod? Great stuff!
((((6)))) Big, loud, burrowing riffs expanding into space with similar vocals as track #5 but with a heavier sort of prog vibe.
((((7)))) Chunky riffs abound with death metal vocals and more story development.
((((8)))) Funny! More story development with Ziltoid meeting some Keanu Reeves character. Sounds like something Fo might use on a promo.
(((((9))))) Batttering, huge sounding fast, classy, modern metal with Townsend’s soaring vocals. Gets pretty mellow in the middle then more metallic in the end.
((((10)))) Oddly poppy but still very riffy. Really good vocals and a real “drifting out to space” vibe.
((((11)))) (FCC “shit”) Funny skit involving Ziltoid’s worst nightmare. No spoiler alert from me.
