DEKAPITATOR - "The Storm Before the Calm" CD (Relapse)
Local 80s sounding thrash metal. No hardcore influences or hard rock, just thrash. Lots of tight rhythm guitar playing, silly lyrics and vocals you can understand. This is metal. Reminds me a lot of EXODUS, TESTAMENT, and ANTHRAX. It makes sense that these guys have the Bay Area's 80s thrash sound, they live here. This is a side project of some of the people from EXHUMED and the band contains former members of NOOTHGRUSH, CRETIN, REPULSION, and FALL OF THE BASTARDS.
1. Starts with a siren and quickly kicks into a riff that could be right off an old ANTHRAX record. Throw in some really stupid lyrics. Lots of headbanging moments. The track drags on a bit too long.
**2. Big simple guitar chug to open the track and then it kicks into fast thrash. The lyrics are classic thrash. Gang vocals. Lots of guitar solos.
**3. More speed metal sounding, a little like SODOM. Speedy with fast sung vocals. Cold War style lyrics, which were very common among 80s thrash bands. There is even a classic mosh part.
4. Sounds like EXODUS. A bit simple though.
5. Slower chugging guitar to open the track. This changes to speedy thrash.
6. Odd guitar tone and the track opens with a guitar solo. Instrumental.
**7. Speedy headbanger. Mosh part. There is a vague fcc at the end. "Kiss your ass goodbbbbbyyyyyyyyeeeee".
**8. Starts with a marching beat and flurry of guitar notes, then a big scream and one hell of a headbanging thrash moment. Some TESTAMENT sounding guitar but the track is fast almost speed metal.
**9. Classic sounding EXODUS guitar buildup. Ends with about 25 seconds of siren.
Fun stuff. -mph
