Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend
Reviewed 2007-08-14
KZSU faves send us their latest twisted sample ridden smirk-rock. Smart lyrics sung through fuzz-box or else excellent treated samples. Music laden in sarcasm, bitterness - scathing and brilliant. Use of good synths, dark and sick, mourning slide guitars, heavy drums. Like a cross between The Residents, Killdozer, Butthole Surfers.

1) samples to start, cheering crowd and a band intro of sorts, followed by heavy tribal rock with repeating sample: “we don’t kill our enemies we get our enemies to kill each other”
2) swingy beat, bluesy with slide guitar, smart vocals about the state of life
3) dark synths, backwards looping samples
4) pounding beat then 70’s flavored “rock” guitar motifs appear
5) TV miller high-life beer commercial samples, fun slide guitars with a “rock” beat, that’s about it
6) slow dirge rock with slide guitars hard-panned, synth swirling, instrumental
7) slow dirge, minimal, a garbage can drum feel, slide guitar, vocals sing of darkness, great stuff
8) mid paced dark dirge fuzz rock, samples “I’m the devil”, nice
9) slow-mid near-ballad, good pearls e.g. “don’t judge a book by its movie”
