Your Imaginary Friend Reviewed 2007-08-02 | ||
Stand-up comedy that fills the void left by Bill Hicks and David Cross (wait, he’s not dead yet). Great commentary on modern life, irreverent delivery, brutal at times, especially to audience members. Oswalt is enjoying a bit of success after his stint on the marginal King of Queens show and the voice of the rat in Ratatouille. Much of this material may be familiar as versions of it were released as a bootleg (see “222” in the library), but this is the “official” Sub Pop release. All great stuff, especially when he likens Bush and Cheney to The Dukes of Hazzard. For fans of Cross, Hicks, Sarah Silverman. All cleaned up for your radio listening pleasure. 1) intro 2) rips KFC, crappy food all in a “failure pile in a sadness bowl” 3) being fat vs. miserable skinny actors, “layer of courtesy fat” 4) cleaned up filth is creepier 5) “miracle of birth”- 63 year old woman, old people fucking 6) the only birthdays that count , burns Bush admin in the end 7) Bush and Cheney are the Dukes of Hazzard (!) 8) parallel universe 9) Paris Hilton: total ripping 10) English majors taking a Physics class, star trek geek joke 11) killing Lucas for the new Star Wars movies, Darth Vader as a kid 12) bubble towns like SF 13-14) growing up in suburbia, escaping “before you kill everyone and yourself” 15) mom tells him not to use his cell phone in “bad” neighborhoods 16) imaginary baby named “10 hours of sleep per night” 17) brief, “dating is a fun nightmare with boners in it” 18) getting a morning after pill, totally rips on a guy in the audience who yells at an inopportune time 19) 4 star chefs being like OCD psychopaths 20) doing movies, talking over bad animation 21) “Death Bed: The Bed That Eats People” 22) Cirque Du Soliel being really “gay” but appealing to “Red State” people |
