B-Monster – At Large

Fuzzed out garage/rock/surf/punk/glam metal. I can’t make out pretty much any of the lyrics, there’s plenty of fuzz everywhere, but also a few unexpected Moog noises. This takes the prize for least informative liner notes, press scribble, and website, although the latter has lots of fun b-movie posters. They claim some aspect of Russ Meyer movie soundtrack in their sound, but I’m hearing a bit of Faster Pussycat the band, myself. Nothing’s over three minutes long or an intellectual strain – just good fun.
I couldn’t hear any FCCs, but then I couldn’t hear much of anything. I like 4 and 13 and especially 11.
1. 1:16 *midtempo fuzzy garage punk with fun noises.
2. 2:08 **midtempo rock’n’roll stomp, simple and fun.
3. 2:39 **somewhat uptempo 4/4 hard rock, squalling guitar.
4. 2:51 ***horror movie keyboard and uptempo surf guitar, maybe a bit of glam metal, and certainly an important concept.
5. 2:29 *Bo Diddley meets Hasil Adkins, a little bit of reverb.
6. 2:46 **disjointed and perplexed 60’s dance rock and a bit of glam.
7. 2:49 **midtempo idunnowhat – maybe grunge, but kinda bouncy.
8. 2:40 *uptempo and lo-fi, definitely in your face.
9. 1:55 **nice riff, uptempo.
10. 2:56 *fast and basic garage punk.
11. 2:25 ****power chords and syncopated stroll. Can’t make out a damn word, but I like the way it sounds.
12. 1:47 **fast 60’s dance rock, but garaged out –a bit Amboy Dukes.
13. 2:32 ***midtempo garage stomp – good stuff. There’s a fierce sound on the guitar…
