Department of Eagles - The Cold Nose
Whacky, spazzy indie rock. Sample-heavy, electronic sounds. Inconsistent and oddball. Super weird and pretty fun. I'd say eclectic if it didn't sound like a way too serious word to describe their music. Lead singer is lead singer of Grizzly Bear. Don't expect anything like Yellow House though. This is a re-release of the band's 2003 album Whitey on the Moon UK -- same tracks, same order. Some songs sound like a creepy old Wizard of Oz soundtrack with random electronic noises (3, 6). Some sound a little like Beck (8, 13). Some (my favs) sound a lot like HTTT Radiohead at a carnival (2, 5, 12). But most are just weird. Tons of random instrumentation. Tons of weird looped vocals. Tons of electronic noises. In general 2, 5, 8, 9, 12, 13, 17 mostly conform to traditional song structures w/ choruses and verses. The rest don't even come close. My picks are all songs, if you're looking for the weirder stuff start with 3 and go from there.
Picks: 5, 2, 9, 12, 8

- Instrumental track, nice bass, only vocals are some collective electronic "ahhs"
- Starts peaceful, soothing. Some "mmhmm"s, violins. Builds to a climax, leaving peace behind.
- Electronic distorted voice loops, tons of random noises. Sick bridge @ 2:15... this song is a trip...
- Very spacey, very dreamy. Same electronic weirdness.
- This song rocks. Hello Radiohead. Their weirdness is there, but with a faster beat, a catchy guitar riff and some real vocals.
- Back in wonderland... spacey, dreamy and trippy for sure... song title gives you an idea: "Gravity's Greatest Victory/Rex Snorted Coke"
- Piano... fuzziness makes you think of an old western player piano... but electronic noises bring you back. Not unpleasant, but not a standout.
- Pretty chill... pretty poppy. Beck? Acoustic guitar. Shakers. Not very many electronic noises.
- Awesome. A parody of the Streets. Sing in collective British accent almost a rap. Great beat... check out this chorus: “Forty dollar rug, twenty dollar lamp, PlayStation 2, Tony Hawk 4.” Fun song
- a non track 0:39, some crazy man blabbering to a beat
- this is like 3 songs in one... the scary man from track 10 is shouting again... pretty funny...
- Radiohead is back. Electronic beat. Again, some pretty solid rocking.
- In the same vein as 8. Acoustic guitar. Backing beat sounds like clacking horse hooves.
- Wierd. Creepy vocals. This song is a nightmare of weirdness.
- Instrumental. Sort of mixes all their weirdness together. I enjoyed this one more than most.
- A lot of electronic moaning. The heavy sound of change falling into something over and over again. A weird ending for a thoroughly weird album.
- Demo of 13. Slower. Less going on than in 13.
