Dreamy, folksy acoustic guitar pieces by Mike Brewer of Granville, OH. Natural comparisons are made to Jeff Tweedy and Wilco. There's not a whole lot of variety on the disc, save tracks 6, 11, 14, 15. 1. somber guitar tune, with harmonica 2. strumming choppy guitar, doubled vocals 3. upright bass, guitar, 4. clean guitar, upright bass 5. little bit of piano, mostly acoustic and vocals, wide stereo separation on the instruments 6. drum machine, guitar, upbeat poppy song 7. more of the same Wilco-esque stuff 8. sounds of nature in the background, crickets and the like. Soft dreamy vocals with ever so slight delay. 9. lower-fi off-mic/"room sound" recording, just guitar and vocals 10. guitar and hammond (mixed far back), lost in a wash of instrumentation. _11_. bright song but with soft vocals, channels Elliot Smith 12. more of the breathy vocals on reverb, with strummed guitar. 13. what if David Bowie had a cold, and then got all sentimental and only had an acoustic guitar? yeah. _14_. instrumental, acoustic and minimal chords from an electric guitar. very pretty _15_. a much more "full band" feel than the rest of the tracks. includes drums and bass to round out the sound. Rec 11,14,15 FCCs: all clear RIYL: Jeff Tweedy, Wilco personal opinion - 2 of 5 stars - songs too much the same |
