Album Review

Indie rock with warm sound and bitter soul. Overdriven guitars, human drums and a bass to anchor. Karl was inspired by Husker Du to pick up the guitar in the late 80's and has been playing since, this is veteran old-school. He's taken what he learned from the last record and put it into concise chunks... FCC's where noted.

+1. Mid-fast, loud. Pithy lyrics on life's disappointments, then rock-out instrumental jam in last few minutes. (This and the last track are the discs long ones)
++2.Mid fast, thick and sweet as molasses. Simple, and radio-friendly length.
3.Mid-tempo, a little easier-going, a good wailin gguitar solo at end. FCC warning "F*ed up", "goddamn" in first verse.
+4.Mid-slow. I like the interplay between all the musicians on this one. Laughably sad.
+5.Faster, straight-up rock.
6.Midtempo, starts with a brief solo then quietens, of course getting a bit louder at the end... (how did you feel when your favorite band sold out?)
+7.Midtempo, melodic, loose in the middle, noisy at the end.
+8.Quieter, unlike the rest of the album. Acoustic guitar, piano, and vocals- very wordy- a little electric guitar in the middle. You may like this song but not the rest of the disc, or vice-versa...
+9.The band gets to have fun- long instrumental intro (2.5mins), outro (5 mins). Minor key song, about keeping it together in the face of adversity/obscurity, I think.

(Disclaimer- Karl and I go way back, so I'm a bit biased. It's not my fault I got a housemate who can't help but rock out year after year. And just for this review's on-line version, here's a link to a short story Karl recently published: http://www.newyinzer.com/17.html )
