Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings "100 Days, 100 Nights" – Serious funk and soul from the wonderful Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings. This is their 3rd album and it does not disappoint! It hits you with so much nasty funk and soul that you will need some time to recover after the album is over. The band is super tight, as always. The rhythm section lays down the groove and the guitar, piano, organ, and horns fill it out perfectly. And of course there is Ms. Jones. Not only is her voice raw, sexy, and powerful, but you can tell she feels every single word she sings. This continues the great sound Daptone has been creating over the last several years, and may be their best release to date. Every single song on here is amazing. Play, play, play!!! (FCC clean)
My Picks: 1, 2, 6, 8

)Starts with a nice horn intro and then kicks into a solid funky lowdown groove. Great raw vocals and nice “Ooo-ooo” back-up vocals. Slows in the middle. Wow! Nasty horns, sax, and organ along with a solid rhythm section.
)Bass kicks it off. Tough, funky, walk. Sassy and tough vocals fit nicely with the grinding sax and horns. Chorus is a bit lighter feeling, but still tough with the lyrics.
)Solid straight ahead soulful walk. Fun and a bit bouncy, although a slower midtempo. Sounds like vibraphone, xylophone, or some other keyboard. Has a bit of a Motown feel to it.
)Laid back and funky. Nice bass, guitar and piano play. Horns sneak in and fill out the sound quite nicely. Builds up a bit and gets harder for a minute, then falls back into the groove. Fits well with the lyrics.
)Slow ballad with some seriously angry lyrics. Beautiful guitar at the beginning. Once the chorus hits it picks up a little with a harder beat and added horns. Damn, she is angry!! Great blend of vocals on this one too. Slow fade out.
)Funky bluesy ballad. Smoky and sexy. Beautiful mix with guitar and sax on the basic melody, nice horn accents and as always solid rhythm. Wow, this is fantastic!
)Lowdown midtempo with a suspicious feel. Guitar, drums, and bass keep it going with some nice horn and string accents. Fun guitar solo.
)Slow ballad feel. Guitar and piano featured along with vocals. Nice horn accents, but man the vocals are great. So much feeling. Lyrics about trying to stay humble in the face of fame.
)Solid driving uptempo. Funky funky soul. Rhythm section along with horns keep the urgent feeling. Ooo, nice, the breakdown section! Trumpet solo to fade out.
)Piano starts it off with a gospel feel. The rest of the band comes in with vocals to a funky groove. About halfway through it gets louder and heavier and then drops off again and then loud again right before the end trying to get an answer from the Lord. If only all music about Jesus was this funky.
