Galactic – From the Corner to the Block
Review by Penny
Well-produced James-Bond-y funk influenced hip hop. Ominous, old school vocals. Takes the best from every decade since the seventies.
1. 3:53 Funk + noise influeces. Repetitive pop chorus. (Lyrics Born)
2. 3:29 Funk guitar, lyres strongly at forefront.
3. 2:58 The rappers are a step up on this track! One sounds like Snoop.
4. 2:44 African drumming based ambient-hop.
5. 3:57 Old school cinematic sound. Chali 2na owns it!
6. 3:09 Instrumental w/ horn section. Sounds like background music in 80’s movie gangster montage.
7. 3:31 Wiggly majestic elecgtric guitar. MCs alternate between enunciating and Beastie Boying.
8. 1:13 Strong dub influence, very short.
9. 3:19 Brass band, xtreme old school
10. 3:23 Rock guitar, female MC & funky R&B chorus w/ FCC violation (Bitch).
11. 5:08 Chllaxes horn-based instrumental with funk guitar. Has energy.
12. 3:26 MC sounds like Eminem. Intermittent male R&B vocalist. Cinematic.
13. 1:23 Brief, jazzy interlude. Has energy. No vocals. Very short.
14. 4:02 Gospel-esque singing chorus, funk guitar, intermittent MCing. Very New York.
