Kind of an out-rock-jam feel with touches of funk, reggae, and world and some noise electronics. Splatter Trio is an old (c.1990) local band of Gino Robair (percussion), Myles Boisen (guitar) and Dave Barrett (sax, who left town several years ago). Here, they join up with tons of friends for a lengthy jam -- actually a splicing of multiple studio and live sessions over 12 years. Amid danceable rhythms and some darn funky bass, you've also got noisy guitar blasts and angular, not-quite-jazz sax.
Loads of fun. Be sure to look up their other stuff (filed as "Splatter Trio" or "Splatter 3").
- Blaring, abrasive little intro (48 seconds). Cool!
- Fast danceable funk
- Rhythmic clangor, into an ice-cool midtempo jam. A bit funky. Heats up when the crazy sax solo kicks in.
- "World" percussion, gentle & fast. Kind of spacey.
- Spacey gloopy step, slowish, a bit funky. Great choppy sax solo
- Slow. Wandering sax/bass. Ends thoughtfully.
- Slow, almost bluesy sax, rather nice (but off-kilter)
- Low-key mid/fast, jamming in a cooldown mode. Ends with a SCREECH that segues into:
- BLAST. Loud blurry attack. Dissolves into quiet end.
- Electronics: Glitchy scribble in start-stop mode
- Madcap mid/fast, into a darker bumpy jam with sax
- Slow death swing. Guitar blast, organized horn line.
- Reggae? in swaying, seasick mode. Squiggly fast sax at first
- "World" groove, fast and breezy. Funky bass, maybe a twinge of reggae.
- (segues from 14) - thumping beat & evil blast riff;
