THOSE DARN ACCORDIONS: Squeeze Machine
Globe, 2007
San Francisco band’s 5th full-length album features their usual blend of multiple accordions and goofy humor. A good time, completely silly.
All good. Fo’s Picks: 3, 4, 7, 10
1. 3:14 – parody of hit songs and the bands that try so hard to make them
2. 4:20 – laid-back Louisiana sound, about accordions of course
3. 3:28 – midtempo: country-Cajun beat, funny duet vox about tandem bikes
4. 3:00 – very silly beer-swilling polka, with vox by comedian Drew Carey
5. 4:09 – cheesy-cool rock shuffle about a door-to-door salesman
6. 4:17 – smooth & quirky pop song, catchy little chorus
7. 3:08 – yeee-haw! It’s a hoedown about huntin’ and taxidermy!
8. 3:15 – cabaret-style crooning about jet-setting ‘round the world
9. 3:49 – upbeat rockin’ salute to high-school janitors everywhere
10. 4:00 – “Back in Black”. Accordions. ‘Nuff said. (this is a straight cover)
11. 3:17 – upbeat, funky tune about a very strange man in a mall
12. 2:49 – relaxed tex-mex: a very silly litany of “stupid things I’ve done”
13. 3:30 – cool gliding tune about a corporate embezzler
14. 3:33 – wonderfully cheesy Elvis hit, merged with the original “O Sole Mio”
15. 4:48 – serious closing ballad about ambition, envy and happiness
