Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend
Reviewed 2008-01-28
Academic artist type gives us two CDs:
The first cd is entirely experimental bagpipes. Yes, bagpipes. You gotta amit, no other traditional instrument besides the Indian Tambora drones like bagpipes. And this guy’s got them. A thorough exploration of the droning quality of bagpipes. Not much if any at all tape or effects manipulation either, just the straight stuff. Some smack of kilts more than others, but a few are just pretty and straight droning, nice.
The 2nd CD is unconventional guitar playing, prepared guitar, etc. Dissonance and abstractness. Fans of John Fahey definitely take note, some really good stuff here.

CD1:
1) bagpipes, drony
2) more spastic, brief
3) brief, air sounds, probably the bag having gas
4) drone, typical
5) this one is nice for the first 5 minutes, overtones, a pure drone, no kilts involved until 5 minutes in
6) more steady tones
7) a dissonant drone, as if bagpipes weren’t disturbing enough
8) more

CD2:
1) acoustic guitar, clunky and plunky picking at first then a more sparse strum and sustain of an electric
2) pretty harmonics and dissonant clangs
3) more harmonics and clangs
4) very dissonant, almost industrial
5) very quiet intro, more dissonance
6-8) more sparse guitar dissonance
