Ragnar of Ravensfjord Reviewed 2008-01-28 | ||
Dark “chamber folk” from a long running, very talented S.F. band. Consistent in it's mood and focus. Often somber but great stuff for grey and rainy days and nights. This album also features guest appearances by John Cobbett (Ludicra, Hammers of Misfortune) & Tim Green (Fucking Champs, Weakling). (((((1))))) Mellow with xylophone & trumpet, piano & Jarboe-like vox. Beautiful! ((((2))) Strummy, folk, pretty good but goes on a little long. (((((3)))) Pretty sound, focused on the balance between the strings and choral vocals. Not far off from an Avo Part piece. (((((4))))) Stirring, anticipatory, epic. Excellent sound all the way through. ((((5)))) Sullen, floaty, minimal (((6))) So-so folk with often reverberating vocals and some good guitar & strings work. (((((7))))) Slow and resonating, very pretty sounding dark folk/chamber sounds. ((((8)))) Droning, violin warbling about through each channel with random bass underneath. (((((9))))) Dark, soundtrack-like, slowly building up and often haunting. ((((10)))) Cello and airy voices mixed together for this ghostly number. |
