WILL SCRUGGS JAZZ FELLOWSHIP: BlueBari Jam Summit, 2007 Fun straight-ahead bop & swing from Scruggs, a baritone/tenor saxophonist who was formerly in the jazz-funk band Cadillac Jones. The band is at its best when they keep it loose and happy (1, 3). Fo’s Picks: 1, 3, 6, 8 1. 3:52 – happy, uptempo, old-fashioned swing: fun sax solo, breezy piano 2. 0:41 – tumbling, crashing interlude (really the end of #1) 3. 5:15 – jaunty second line funky-strut, a really catchy little tune 4. 1:50 – sneaky walking-bop interlude; almost crime-jazz 5. 6:36 – modern jazz wiggle, mid/uptempo: propulsive rhythm, flowing sax 6. 9:22 – heavy stroll: sax solo has a 50s sound, elegant piano, builds up… 7. 4:14 – Bob Marley tune as a gentle ballad: breathy sax, flowing piano 8. 6:06 – hip and breezy: the sax solo really clicks 9. 7:43 – lazy blues jam, nice ‘n’ greasy with guitar 10. 4:44 – Peter Tosh tune, relaxed ballad with guitar [ Fo ] 25-Nov-07 | ||
