Abyssic, depressive and weird black metal from Southern California. Xasthur = Malefic (aka: Scott Conner) a very talented and dark, disturbed soul. Plenty of doomed out (not doom metal”, per se) dark voids and chasms. “Uneasy and unaccessible” and often worth your time.
((((1)))) Buzzing, cyclical with obscured vocals some odd bell-like sounds buried in the mix, too. Interesting.
((2)) Gloomy, just too repetitive and simple.
(((3))) Slow, warbly and and warped. The vocals are an acquired taste for sure but the instrumentation makes it stand out a bit.
((((4)))) Sharply tuned guitar, wavering and descending into various pits of hell. The vocals become like another instrument and blend into the mix.
((((5)))) Cyclical and noisy, buzz and almost natural sounding percussion (though buried in the mix). Fukked up in a good way.
(((6))) Misanthropic black metal hornet’s nest with “shoes in the washing machine” drums. Great guitar tone, though.
(((((7))))) Totally bleak horror show music. Slow and oppressive doom.
((8)) Tinny, slow and completely pained. Meh, he’s done much better.
(((9)))) More fast drone-buzz guitar and sputtering drums. Makes good use of drift/doom vs. fast-ish tempos.
((((((10)))))) Bleak as hell, dark ambient and multiple layers of vocals. Excellent.
((((11)))) Minimal intro, then elongated & depressive doom riffs & a tweaked cello. Makes for a really grim soundbed.
