Original Sonny Boy Williamson, The

Reviews

The Byrd of Paradise
Reviewed 2008-01-22
The first "blues harmonica star" 1930s and 40s. Killed in 1948 - inspired every harp player since, especially the "other" Sonny Boy who lived until the early 1960s. Set in small bands, usually no drums, deep playing by everyone. Serious lyrics, very topical for the time. A wonderful look and listen into the "real" blues history with a virtual who's who of sidemen. Even Sonny Boy playing sideman at times. With guitar, mandolin, piano. The "real" Sonny Boy Williamson with the real harmonica blues.
