Senor Flavio – Supersaund 2012
Reviewed by Sadie O., 2/19/08
Demented ska/garage/scratch/lounge… I dunno WHAT-all… from a founding member of the great Argentinan band Los Fabulosos Cadillacs. Turns out, on review, only the first few songs are really Ska/Reggae… Most other songs seem to fit into some genre or another, but are slightly twisted and disturbed – ergo, I like this a lot!
FCCs (en Inglese) on track 4, which is a shame...
1. 2:52 **long intro, then uptempo skank with pretty singing and distinctively Latin ska vocalizations.
2. 3:01 ***jolly uptempo ska en Espanol. Odd circus-style keyboards.
3. 3:28 **midtempo lounge garage rock with a bit of ska beat. Slightly overwrought Burt Bacharach (but I like it …)
4. 3:05 FCCs – fuck you ***uptempo syncopated skank, very Latin-ska.
5. 2:20 **goofy hyperspeed ska – just plain fun.
6. 3:52 ***slow dance time! Totally Santo and Johnny! Unctuous vocals make this seriously fun stuff.
7. 2:27 ***rock ‘n’ farfisa! Twist city! Yippee!
8. 2:05 *hyperspeed garage rock in Spanglish.
9. 2:16 **midtempo pretty garage pop with odd instrument sounds.
10. 3:07 **chugging acoustic folk with too many syllables to quite fit. Fairly seriously bent.
11. 3:23 ****very strange, multi-layered downtempo lounge with scratching.
12. 3:05 ***disjointed midtempo cumbia with a reggae backbeat and elements of hip hop… and a few other things.
13. 3:33 ***random noises intro, then a bit of spaghetti western with mega-whammy-bar.
