Spastic noisy pop/rock that uses lots of video game midi sounds, casio effects, and their own homemade synths. Third album from the Los Angeles band that has ties to Stanford, and has been compared to Les Savy Fav & Deerhoof. Whiny pop vocals used lots on this album - more so than the others - and it's done to varying degrees of success. They've been calling this one their "God concept album." Fun energetic stuff overall.
.Affected-guitar & drum opening, vocal harmonies and big sounds - pretty straightforward
.* Great noisy opening; shouting, chanting vocals with a sort of dark spiritual theme
.** Rockin' guitars & drums devolve into chaos
.Slow start builds to driving guitar-heavy rock, lyrics tell story of Jericho.
.* Casio rhythm, blippy synth, catchy chorus
.** Chanting harmonies over synth noise
.** Power pop anthem of the album, and it's pretty good.
.*** Funky electronica: drum kit galore & synth/casio bits that are all over the place! Insane & terrific!
.* Great snotty lyrics, a swell of guitars in middle of this otherwise uneventful tune
10. Fast rock that smells a bit punky. It's well done, but not very interesting.
11. Pop tune, heavy on the midi sounds, affected vox & god themes.
.** Mellower tune; Vox harmonies foretelling fire and brimstone over a tinny, mechanical beat.
.* High energy spastic rock, interesting break down ~2 min into song. Last minute is soft feedback noise.
.Acoustic guitar, whistlin', clappin', and redemptive lyrics
