Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend

Yup, Howes nails it: “Arty experimental rock”. Female vocs mixed low and fuzzy, instruments leaning toward distortion, beats non-standard. Low fi, overall. What you might expect from New York hipsters. Don’t get me wrong: its actually good! Great, in fact. When so much posing occurs, or bands have to have some sort of shtick (“look, we’re all lesbians!”). But this takes on a few more elements that need bearing, noise a la Throbbing Gristle, a post-punk approach to the vocals, general song structure, approach to instruments, and a fuck-it-all nihilism of Pussy Galore or other trash can bands. I think I am in love with this band. All tracks not good, but GRRRR-REAT!

1) noisey intro to galloping skippy rhythm, just keeps going and fails to bore
2) good noise elements, with a slow plod that justifies the liner notes nod to Throbbing Gristle
3) marked by a piercing repetitive synth tone, this bounces back and forth with an upbeat funky beat and indecipherable vocals
4) sloppy drums+sloppier fem vocals, this is just the sound of your brain on drugs, or when you bang your head on the floor cuz you are in so much pain, like the Swans put in a blender with God is My Copilot
