Blind Boys of Alabama/Down in New Orleans Direct Holdings 2008 Review: Andrea Classic Gospel with a New Orleans tinge. The venerable Blind Boys of Alabama are legendary in the Gospel world for both their staying power and their willingness to be open to new ideas. Here they are backed by Allen Toussaint and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, venerable NOLA institutions in their own rights. 1) 3:33 Midtempo civil rights tune second line funk. 2) 3:19 Midtempo cover of an Earl King song. 3) 5:03 *** Slow cover of the Mahalia Jackson classic.
