I haven’t heard a band take surf to the next level like this since the Mermen destroyed all boundaries of acceptable “surf”. Epic, loud guitars with the requisite twang and whammy. But things soar and intertwine and scream and plead. Its beautiful stuff that I cant stop likening to the Mermen cuz they were (are?) such a mindblowing band. So this band could withstand worse comparisons. Awesome stuff! This is not your “father’s” surf band. This could be the soundtrack to your next desert acid trip as much as your next perfect wave. And the best part is I suspect the entire cd was recorded in one set as all songs blend together (but they track separately nicely so don’t sweat it) 1) Mancini spy feel, mid paced and swingy, epic length 2) slow mindful 3) creepy, out of place in times, spooky but upbeat and rockin 4) very brief track, dark and tape loopy, serves as an intro to the following which is 5) upbeat and rockin and uses some general rockisms to keep riding the wave 6) goes through some pretty moods and explores the drums a bit and some ethereal minimal synth 7) upbeat if not subdued and mysterious 8) gets rockin upright, quick 9) this one has a slow to build intro and some creepy vocalizations, samples, really makes it 10) slow and mindful, head swaying to the beauty (and the beer), epic length 11) an entirely ambient noise track, great stuff | ||
