Album Review

Avant-emo-ish, avant-math-ish music similar in some sense to Supersystem, Psapp and the Postal Service. (Even a song or two are more like Free Design-ish bands). Definitely upbeat, very involved arrangements that are good for your ‘inner geek’. Sorry, but this review is not going to be as good as Matt Rubin’s review of an earlier Pattern Is Movement album from 2 years ago which should definitely be referenced. I probably don’t like this as much as Mr. Rubin liked the earlier record, as at times I think the songs are like reading Waiting For Godot, but by no means is that true all the time. One thing I will say is that Pattern Is Movement is a very appropriate name for this outfit. Track 8 is by far the best track, I also like 4,5,9. Songs tend to be short.

BRIEF notes:

1 Appropriate beginning track
4 Emo-klezmer?!
5 Piano-cinematic
6 Free Design-ish
8 Fast and plaintive, the speed almost contradicting the tone
9 Slower, somewhat pensive
10 Nice motif of a sort of synth-keyboard repeated, nice other sounds in a repetitive, sing-song 2nd half.
