Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend
Reviewed 2008-04-25
Electroacoustic cello and treatments, very avante, yet appealing to the noise lovers in us all. Really advanced stuff, highly recommended for fans of Sun Ra, Stravinski, William Parker, Charles Ives, and Merzbow alike. Beautiful stuff. (Note to science geeks: most of their track titles have biochemistry/metabolism/biology origins). The more I listen to this the more I realize that its about as good, brilliant, a CD that’s passed KZSU’s doors in a long while.

1) percussive acoustic string tones, cacophony of sorts
2) sparser with very strange tones, high frequencies, nice stereophonic effects, very trippy
3) this one actually sounds like a cello, treated, played very unconventionally, grows intense
4) heavy, percussive, ebbs and flows gets blippy, gets almost loud and noisey, intense
5) sparser, bursts, avante
6) pensive bowing with electrobursts
7) almost water dripping quality to this very hypnotic and peaceful work of art
8) swirling and diving feel, like flying, then turns confusing and psychedelic, more of an improv noise feel
9) sparse interspersed with noisey cello and strange electronics
10) starts sparse with obvious cello sounds but builds into heaviness, stops cold
11) more of a field recording, sounds amongst organic water and church bells, voices
12) minimal mostly low end bowing with strange subtle sounds
13) like being in a rusty airlock in space, slow and mindful
