ELECTRIC WIZARD - "Witchcult Today" CD (Candlelight USA)
Slow heavy doom metal with touches of stoner rock. Tracks are long, slow, with huge riffs and vocals you can understand. The music is blues based metal taking influences from BLACK SABBATH, PENTAGRAM, and BONGZILLA with additional influences from the occult and HP Lovecraft. This is this UK bands 6th full length release and the band now includes 2nd guitarist, Liz Buckingham (13 and SOURVEIN).
1. Quiet fade-in beginning. Slow oppressive guitar riff. One guitar plays the main riff while the other guitar plays a nice melody. The riff doesn't change much over the nearly 8 minutes. Repetitive.
**2. More rock-n-roll sounding but still big and heavy. Shorter
**3. Classic, slow, big, doom/stoner riff. Trippy.
4. Short trippy psychedelic instrumental.
5. Quiet fadein beginning. Reminds me a little of CATHEDRAL. Slow with guitar that isn't as heavy. Last 30 seconds are very quiet.
**6. Heavy and ugly like BUZZOVEN or BONGZILLA. A few samples. Nice chugging guitar halfway through.
**7. Darker, 70s sounding, and epic. Nice Hammond organ sounds mixed in with samples. Never gets heavy for long.
**8. Stoner metal with hippy vibe.
Great stuff. -mph
