Ultramodern sax/piano/drums trio with a tense sound of steel and glass, informed by (but not including any) dance electronica. Previous albums went for the jugular with hard-driven piano and complex beats. Here, they explore the softer and more organic side of what they can do, without abandoning their distinctive sound. It's still got that "We're from The Future" sound to it. (If that scares you, try track 3).

Vijay Iyer - piano
Steve Lehman - alto sax
Tyshawn Sorey - drums

1- Mid/fast and fairly dark, a controlled crashing feel. Abrupt ending.
2- Angular midtempo ramble, pretty cool
3- Soft and dissonant start. Interesting pulse later.
4- Heavy mid/fast
5- Quietly builds to a dark wave. Gradual, not a power punch. An intriguing track that does take a little patience. (8 mins.)
6- A dark, slow crawl
7- Eerie cascade, gets crazy fast
8- Mid/fast, nicely involved
9- Minutes of tension, then pops into a strong midtempo beat
10- Slowly wandering
11- Halting and snaky, slowish. Complicated.
