Manu Chao – Politik Kills EP

One (populist political) Manu Chao song remixed in a variety of Reggae styles by some of the UK’s top producers. How can you possibly go wrong, when you’ve got Dennis Bovell producing and Linton Kwesi Johnson on the very first track? That said, all tracks are excellent. I’m not usually a big fan of bunches of remixes, but these are HOT.

1. 3:17 ***midtempo heartbeat riddim, dubby, additional vocals by Linton Kwesi Johnson.
2. 6:14 ***uptempo and much brighter sound, but still quite dubby, fine horns and production, classic style toast.
3. 2:48 **midtempo, a sort of dark “jungle drums” sound.
4. 3:58 ***totally different – upbeat dancehall version, additional vocals in English and Spanish.
5. 2:56 **hyperspeed electronic jungle mix. Gnarly!
6. 6:21 ***instrumental of track 2 – fat, groovy uptempo dub. Yay!
