ADRIAN IAIES: Vals de la 81st & Columbus Sunnyside, 2008 [ Pronunciation: ah-dree-YAHN ee-AH-yes ... that's my best guess, anyway ] MODERN JAZZ – This is rich, compelling music from Argentina by way of New York, with bandoneon (accordion) player Michael Zisman adding a heady tango flavor to Iaies’ robust piano. But the emphasis is squarely on the jazz side, with Iaies and Zisman having plenty to say and a seamless rapport between their well-crafted solos. It’s a treat. All fine.
